PLAYMA

Originating from different scenes and musical backgrounds, music outfits don't get much more diverse than PLAYMA. A musical meeting of minds between acclaimed Russian producers Davip and Mars, and respected French Drum and Bass artist Ben William, PLAYMA represents a hybrid of creative visions.
Despite knowing each other for many years, a few collaborative releases, and even playing each other's tracks in sets, it was only in June of 2011 that this unlikely group became a firm reality. After a show in Kaliningrad which happened to feature all three producers on the line up, a quick play around in the studio resulted in a surprisingly huge track. Knowing they were onto something, Davip, Mars and Ben William quickly formed PLAYMA as a project to fuse their varied styles into one awesome product.
With backgrounds in Dubstep, Drum and Bass and breaks as well as inspiration from a variety of music including Miles Davis, The Chemical Brothers and Noisia, it was always likely that PLAYMA would have a unique, novel sound.
In the studio, music comes from a mix of two languages, three DAW's and years of friendship. Despite appearing to have so many factors against them such as location and differing software, not to mention a occasional language barrier, PLAYMA are able to work together in a flawless synergy, with their unconventional methods resulting in some seriously original output.
Tracks often begin with Ben Williams forming a beat due to his drumming background. Already established as one of France's greatest Drum and Bass DJ's with his electic high energry sets featuring DnB, Breakbeat Dubstep and even some electro, Ben is one of the most in demand DJ's around. Having also worked his way up the producing ladder and producing Missill's classic album "Targets", the creative Frenchman now lends his talents to the PLAYMA project.
Then Mars takes over. Founder and owner of XSSR music and XSSr dubstep, Alex Khilko has quickly become a leader of the Russian electronic music. After DJing in 2004, the young producer began making breaks in 2006, and three short years later his work was nominated for ‘Best Track’ at world famous International Breakbeat Awards. Using his already proven talents, Mars is able to sculpt the dirtiest, largest and most rumbling bass, another thing set to become a hallmark of PLAYMA's output.
Russian Breaks producer Davip then adds rich sparking synth, giving PLAYMA's rich sound a third layer. Much like his peers, Davip aka Ilgiz Shamsiev is already well respected as a solo artist. At a mere 20 years of age, Davip already boasts releases on some of the biggest Breaks label's including Hardcore Beats UK and Breed 12 Inches, a sister label of the renowned Lifted Music label.
After this creative process which often takes place online or in person, the result is a track that is a reflection of all three members, and unlike anything else in the Dubstep scene at the moment.
With their unconventional style, production and individual talents, this exciting unlikely trio are ready to blow the electronic music scene wide open.
Now at the tail end of 2011 the trio have signed to AudioPorn Records, one of the leading labels in Drum and Bass – and more recently, in the Dubstep scene. Founded by Shimon, AudioPorn already boasts one of the most exciting roster of artists in the scene including new signings Fourward, High Maintenance, and Xilent. A perfect fit for PLAYMA, AudioPorn have always had a reputation for breaking original new talent and cross-over sounds, being the label that gave the world such hits as ‘Vandals’, ‘Quarks’, and ‘Teleportation’ by Dirtyphonics, as well as ‘History Of The Future’ by Camo & Krooked, and ‘Choose Me II’ by Xilent. Now with the might of one of the most cutting-edge labels behind them, PLAYMA look set to light up the scene with their unique vision of electronic music.
